AAO 2016 Annual Meeting

Focus Eye Group

Dr. Luminais attended in October the largest meeting of eye care professionals in the world in the greatest city in the world:  the American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting this year in Chicago. While there, he accepted a recognition award from EyeCare America, the largest volunteer eye-care program in America, in which he has been a long-time participant.

Education and update possibilities are endless at the Academy. At any given hour, there are at least dozens—if not scores—of educational opportunities.  Dr. Luminais concentrated on seminars about glaucoma and cataracts, with lectures and stimulating discussion and give-and-take with some of the world’s experts. Femto-laser assisted cataract remains an important and current topic, and it has been a welcome addition at Vision One Laser and Surgery Center in the last year, making cataract surgery more precise and accurate, as well as gentler while reducing astigmatism. A symposium on brain health—with implication for the eyes—was fascinating and interesting. A seminar on retinal photography highlighted some new techniques.

There was also a potpourri of other topics, of course, and an opportunity to see and to try some the newest equipment and technology—cameras, lasers.  There was even a meeting about laser treatment for bothersome floaters (only occasionally a good idea).   There were meetings about a bothersome eye inflammation—-uveitis.  It was also good see some colleagues from Wills Eye Hospital and Temple University Hospital.

Important: The office will be closed on Monday, May 27th in observance of Memorial Day. We will reopen Tuesday, May 28th at 8:30am.
